Vertiefungskurs: PPPD, Hamburg 26

Your advanced course in dizziness and vestibular therapy

Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is the most common cause of chronic dizziness. In international dizziness clinics, PPPD accounts for about 30% of all cases, making it the most frequent diagnosis. Millions of people worldwide suffer from this disorder, which is characterized by severe distress and significant limitations in daily life.

Patients with PPPD belong to the most severely affected groups in dizziness therapy – and are therefore very frequently encountered in physiotherapy practices. However, they are often misdiagnosed or incorrectly treated, which can further increase uncertainty and contribute to the chronification of symptoms.

Even experienced therapists often reach their limits when treating this complex patient group. A specialized, structured approach is therefore crucial for achieving sustainable therapeutic success.

In this advanced course, Dr. David Herdman – who completed his PhD on PPPD at the renowned King’s College London and has received multiple awards for his scientific work (Better Health Award, GESH Care Awards) – will provide practical insights into how to treat patients with PPPD effectively and safely. Dr. Herdman has been working with this patient group for many years and is considered one of the leading international experts in this field.

This practice-oriented advanced course provides modern therapeutic approaches for persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD), based on current neurobiological and cognitive-behavioral research findings.

The focus is on the structured application of the INVEST model for the systematic assessment and treatment of PPPD.

Key topics of the course include:

  • Fundamentals and neurobiological mechanisms of PPPD
  • Psychological factors in dizziness and their therapeutic relevance
  • Structured diagnostic assessment and case formulation
  • Goal-oriented work with patients affected by PPPD
  • In-vivo behavioral experiments (practical instruction and application)
  • Integration of cognitive strategies into dizziness therapy
  • Balance exercises and attention guidance
  • Relapse management and prevention
